Support for Food and Farming
The Cornwall Development Company hosts the Cornwall Agri-Food Council and the Bodmin Moor Livestock Initiative. Both offer support through a range of measures for the County's food and farming businesses.
The Cornwall Agri-Food Council
The Cornwall Agri-food Council Development Team (CACDT) began in June 2000 as an Objective One funded project sponsored by Cornwall Enterprise. Its role was to facilitate applications to the Objective One Programme from the agricultural, horticultural, food and land based industries of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The team also acted as the administrative body for the Cornwall Agri-food Council. Objective One came to a close in September 2008, however over the existence of the programme, the team provided initial guidance to over 2,023 rural businesses and provided in depth support to over 120 rural businesses. In addition to this, it assisted projects and secured £33.9 million from the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund of the Objective one Programme in the form of projects as diverse as cheese processing and machinery sharing.
Although funding streams have changed the CACDT continues its work. Now funded through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE), Cornwall Council, the European Social Fund and the European Regional Development Fund, the areas of work are split between the team to enable a continued strategic and proactive delivery of support to the agricultural, horticultural, food and land based industries. In September 2009 a new extension to the team was created to work with livestock producers on Bodmin Moor. The Bodmin Moor Livestock Initiative is funded by the RDPE as part of a wider South West Uplands Initiative.
